Get Involved/Support Our Work
Abundant Surplus meeting Abundant Needs through Creativity and Care.
There are many ways that you can help build the network.
- Donate surplus office, school, and/or art supplies. (See list of materials we need.)
- Sponsor teachers and community programs with memberships and/or "ReUse Dollars."
- Share your skills (technical, legal, organizational, creative, resourceful). Volunteers can help by assisting with workshops, making samples, sorting donations, stocking the shelves, and gathering donations.
As a non-profit organization, we are able to provide a tax credit for all eligible charitable donations. Please contact us for information on how you can get involved.
Together we can help our community and honor our resources by:
- Providing low-cost supplies so teachers can get more value for their money. Teachers typically spend between $300-$1500 of their personal money to purchase supplies for their classroom.
- Collecting surplus materials in good condition, to match goods with needs. Every day, the train that leaves Seattle/King County for the landfill is a mile long! (source: Seattle Public Utilities) We survey teachers and community programs about their needs and network with businesses to collect the good stuff before it's wasted.
- We help grow the green-collar workforce by integrating green business practices and ethics into customized internships and other learning opportunities for youth.
